Membership Committee Update
It is with great pleasure that I will be serving our Chapter as the Membership Committee Chair this year. Our Membership Committee includes Bob Faulds, Bob Nigh, Gary Brochtrup, Julie Kimps, and of course Michelle Weiss. Our charter is to recruit and onboard new members as well as improve membership engagement.
We believe that understanding and communicating FEI’s value propositions is vital to our success on all three fronts.
One of FEI’s value propositions, particularly at the local chapter level is developing your professional network. Expanding my professional network was the main reason for me joining FEI 11 years ago and is still the main reason why I continue to be actively involved in the Chapter.
For this, our first newsletter article of the 2024/2025 chapter year we have a request. We are asking all members and strategic partners to help others develop their professional network.
Introducing yourself to new people and helping connect acquaintances are great ways to build professional networks. Another way to help is by bringing guest to our chapter events.
So, our specific ask is that you participate in as many chapter events as you can and when you do, register and bring along a guest or two. Guests do not necessarily need to be potential members. In fact, we believe that having more professionals with diverse backgrounds at our meetings could improve interactions and, therefore help build networks. One suggestion is to bring along college students and professionals that are just getting their career off the ground. Give them an opportunity to build their professional network that can help accelerate their career.
We’re looking forward to a great chapter year. Please feel free to reach out to any of us on the Membership Committee and share your thoughts on the chapter.
All the best.
Jim Rubright
Membership Committee Chair
2024-2025 PROGRAM OFFERINGS UPDATE
I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer! The executive committee, strategic partners and I are very excited as we’re planning for this year’s events, including one in concert with the Green Bay Packers and it’s all about the 2025 NFL Draft. I’m hoping to see many of you at that event, as well as most of our meetings.
There will be one major change of note as we move into this next fiscal year. Obviously, one of the main benefits of FEI is the ability to network with our peers in concert with the programming that FEI Eastern Wisconsin provides. In that vein, we will be largely returning to our pre-COVID programming format in which the majority of our professional development sessions are done in person at our chapter meetings as opposed to virtually. In addition, there will no longer be a simulcast of any speakers at the chapter meetings.
The collaboration which we can bring to each other from our various experiences has been key to the success of our chapter and we wish to provide additional points of discussion. There will continue to be virtual CPE available through FEI National, which we will highlight as it becomes available. The executive committee and I are thrilled to have all of you with us for another programming year

AI and Robotics: Trends and Opportunities
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been around for decades. But generative AI—the branch that's generating all the buzz right now—is relatively new.
These tools, built on large-language models (LLMs), are trained on the collective knowledge stored on the internet. Because LLMs excel at pattern matching, they can provide answers that seem humanlike. But pattern matching also means they’re only as accurate as the data they collect.
Unless you have a wealth of data available that you can tailor and customize for your needs, these AI tools probably aren’t ready to handle your daily operations. And most companies don’t have the capacity to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to build an LLM that’s specific to their needs. However, several companies offer off-the-shelf generative AI tools, and companies can tie their proprietary data to these existing LLMs.
Similarly, companies have used robotics in one form or another for decades. The difference now is that AI-powered robots promise to bring transformative capabilities, not just efficiency improvements.

Post-Acquisition Optimization: Accounting, Controls, Tax & Transformation
On July 31 at 11:00AM CT, Jefferson Wells experts are presenting a webinar on Post-Acquisition Optimization: Accounting, Controls, Tax & Transformation.
M&A activity continues, and organizations seek to grow via mergers or acquisition in both the private and public company arenas. While M&A activity is often done for strategic reasons, the corporate accounting, internal audit, tax, and operational teams must work through effects on the business. In this complimentary CPE-eligible webinar, our Jefferson Wells Directors will discuss impacts of M&A activity across the organization, highlight often overlooked challenges of M&A activity in accounting, controls, and tax, and share ways to plan for – and avoid – integration and optimization oversights.
Would you or a team member like to join us on July 31st? Can’t make the live webinar? Register for the session to receive a link to the recording.
How Can You Help Pay for Your Student’s Education?
Due to the rising costs of education, many Americans are looking for ways to fund the educational expenses of their children and grandchildren.
In 2023, Congress overhauled the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") and the Department of Education’s process for awarding federal student aid, which has taken effect for the 2024–25 award year. These changes included a simplified form, removal of the sibling discount, introduction of a new eligibility formula, modified family and aid considerations, and expanded access to Pell Grants. These changes are aimed at better aligning federal aid with the actual cost of college. Even with these changes, however, additional funding may be necessary to fully cover the costs.
